Sausalito CA is a small waterfront community on the shores of San Francisco Bay with about 7100 population. Many homes have beautiful views of the Bay, the Golden Gate Bridge, Angel Island, Belvedere and Tiburon, and the San Francisco city skyline. Situated just across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco, Sausalito thrives with its convenient location to The City. Historically, Sausalito served as terminus for passenger rail traffic to San Francisco from the north. During WW II, it was the location of a ship yard building Liberty Ships. Now, Sausalito has transformed in to a highly desirable, high end residential community with direct ferry service and easy auto commute to San Francisco, comfortable marine influenced weather and numerous yacht harbors. Sausalito was one of the first Marin County communities and has a generally older, varied and interesting housing stock. Its bayside location with marine influenced weather and gorgeous views of the Bay, Belvedere and the Tiburon Peninsula, the downtown San Francisco skyline and the Bay in addition to its easy commute across the Golden Gate Bridge to San Francisco make it an appealing and convenient place to live. For the nautical minded, there are numerous yacht harbors and the downtown area has good shopping and a variety of well rated restaurants, some with Bay and City views. Public schools below the middle school level receive only an average rating but private schools in the area are highly rated and desirable.
